Dysport is a muscle relaxant produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria. It acts on the junctions between the nerves and muscles, preventing the release of one of the chemical messengers called acetylcholine from the nerve endings that would normally cause the muscle to contract. If the messenger is prevented from being released this results in a weakened muscle and helps to reduce some of the abnormal muscle contractions.

Dysport (abobotulinumtoxin A) is an injection for wrinkle treatment. This noninvasive procedure temporarily decreases muscle movement in the target areas to soften the appearance of glabellar lines, the vertical wrinkles most prominent on your forehead in between your eyebrows. It’s also sometimes used for certain medical conditions.
Dysport was originally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2009. You may be a candidate for Dysport if you want to treat glabellar wrinkles and you’re under the age of 65.
Dysport is a neuromodulator that relaxes facial muscles to smooth wrinkles. By limiting muscle movement, it prevents wrinkles from forming or deepening over time. The injection temporarily reduces fine lines, giving the skin a smoother appearance.
Dysport injections are administered by specialized doctors, such as dermatologists or aesthetic surgeons. The procedure involves injecting Dysport into five areas around the forehead and eyebrows. A topical anesthetic may be applied to minimize discomfort. The procedure takes just a few minutes, with most time spent on preparation. After the injections, you can leave immediately unless there are side effects. Follow-up instructions, including a timeline for future treatments, will be provided by your doctor.
After Dysport injections, you can return home immediately with little to no recovery time. Results may appear within two days and last up to four months. One study showed an 88.5% success rate in wrinkle treatment 30 days post-injection. For ongoing results, further treatments are necessary. Avoid rubbing the injection site and wait at least two hours before exercising to minimize side effects.

What is the most important information you should know about Dysport? Spread of Toxin Effects: In some cases, the effects of Dysport and all botulinum toxin products may affect areas of the body away from the injection site. Symptoms can happen hours to weeks after injection and may include swallowing and breathing problems, loss of strength and muscle weakness all over the body, double vision, blurred vision and drooping eyelids, hoarseness or change or loss of voice, trouble saying words clearly, or loss of bladder control. Swallowing and breathing problems can be life threatening and there have been reports of death. You are at the highest risk if these problems are pre-existing before injection.
